Dr. Courtney Ward was born and raised in Sumter, SC. She started her undergraduate career at Clemson University where she joined the Calhoun Honors College and received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences in 2013. Shortly after, she moved to Birmingham, Alabama to start optometry school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. While at UAB, Dr. Ward was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. She was also a member of the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity and served as the President of the National Optometric Student Association. Both organizations allowed her to follow her passion of providing high-quality vision care to disadvantaged populations.
After receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2018, she started her residency training in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. While in residency, she gained extensive knowledge and training in diagnosing and treating ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic and other vascular diseases. She also gained clinical experience in neuro-vision rehabilitation, specialty contact lenses, electrodiagnostic testing, and dry eye disease.
Dr. Ward is excited to be joining The Eye Center and looking forward to serving the community.In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, sorority sisters, and family, grilling and cheering on the 2018 Undefeated National Champions, The Clemson Tigers!
